Person concentrates only on hypnotist’s voice and ignores other things around the subject. The subject is open to the open to suggestions of hypnotist and also with decreases inhibitions.
There are several hypnosis techniques for hypnotizing a person. Starting constantly at a particular point, concentrating on a moving spiral or a gold watch are some of the common hypnosis techniques used by hypnotists.
Procedure involved in Progressive Relaxation Hypnosis Technique
Progressive relaxation is the easiest hypnosis technique that is used by hypnotherapist. It just needs the voice of the hypnosis for putting a person into trance. In this progressive relaxation hypnosis technique, the subject is made to sit or lie down comfortably. Sometimes, soft music is played in the background if both the hypnotist and the subject agree for it.
In a soft, yet firm voice, the hypnotist starts the progressive relaxation hypnosis technique by making the subject to pay attention on each of the major muscle group, starting with the feet and working their way up.
Hypnotist suggests the subject to tense the muscles, hold it for 3 seconds, and then tells to relax, working their way from feet up the calves, knees, things, etc. The hypnotist should remind the subject to remain in relaxed state after every few muscle groups by reiterating the muscle groups that have already been relaxed.
Hypnotist may give some additional suggestions of sleepiness, when the hypnotist and the subject have made their way up to the face and neck. The hypnotist may suggest the subject that their eyelids are getting heavier and encourage the subject to close their eyes.
Once the subject enters into the trance using this hypnosis technique, the hypnotist can start his work for achieving his goal. During this process, the hypnotist may ask questions, and suggest commands that would help the subject in solving the problem. Sometimes, the subject may enter into sleep from this trance and feel calm and relaxed after awakening.
However, it is best to wake the subject. The most common technique used for wakening up the subject is to count from 10 to 1 by giving the clues on how to wake up from hypnotic trance.
The hypnotist should be open to subject’s comments and criticism after the completion of the hypnosis session. This feedback from the subject can be helpful for the hypnotist for improving his skills.
