Hypnotherapy and NLP

Hypnotherapy and NLP are closely associated with other. Most often, considered as braches of same family of therapeutic approaches. When you are looking for a hypnotherapist to having hypnotherapy, there is a possibility that you may be hypnotherapists practicing NLP to some extent, and on the other hand, you may also find NLP therapists practicing hypnotherapy techniques to an extent during their sessions.

Hypnotic Trance

Under hypnotherapy, hypnotist uses various hypnotic techniques for making positive changes. For solving their problems, the person is put in deeply relaxed state of mind, and positive suggestions are induced into his mind. While the person is under the relaxed state, the hypnotist is able to get access the subconscious mind for using it own abilities to solve problems.

Under this state, the patient is able to concentrate on therapist’s voice, and also able to follow the suggestions given. This state of mind is known as hypnotic trance. A person can experience this hypnotic trance, which is the state of being very relaxed on daily basis. You just need to focus your attention on something highly selective.

For example, when you are reading an interesting book, or watching an interesting movie, you may enter in the state of trance. Did you ever been so immersed in reading a book or watching a movie to an extent that you are able to imagine yourself in the particular scene of the book or movie, and completely ignoring the noises and distraction of the real world around you, this is what is known as trance.

Other examples are your imagination or daydreaming. This can also applied in negative sense. For example, when you become overwhelmed by a problem and it feels like all you have or are is that problem.

NLP

NLP was created after spending time in studying and modeling therapist who were good at attuning good results. Similar to hypnotherapy, NLP too works on subconscious mind for finding solutions for problems of the patients.

For putting the patient into trance like state some therapists of NLP also use language patterns. Metaphorical story telling and using imagination for putting a patient are other hypnotic techniques used by NLP therapists.

Differences between Hypnotherapy and NLP

Even though hypnotherapy and NLP appear very similar, there are certain differences between both of them. In Hypnotherapy a patient is made to seat in a comfortable chair, or lying down, and most often patient’s eyes are closed.

Where as in NLP, a patient is made to get more involved into practical level, therefore the patient need to be standing or need to something or say something. The patient’s eyes may be or may not be closed, but still require to use imagination.

NLP techniques include elements of hypnotherapy but, they are used in a more sublet way. A NLP therapist allows you to draw on what you already have to work in order to create a new way of thinking. However, you may still see some of the more traditional therapies used too.

Most often, a person will be able to set back and experience a time of deep relaxation after a NLP session. Thus, the person will be able to leave the session with a positive outcome and ready to face the challenges.
